Learn how to install a KLICKfix bike antenna to keep your dog's bungee leash from tangling into the front wheel. Step-by-step guide with common mistakes.
Quick answer
Attach the KLICKfix bike antenna to your bike's seatpost or rear rack using the included bracket, then route the bungee leash through the antenna tip to prevent tangling.
Why install a bike antenna?
A bike antenna keeps your dog's bungee leash away from the front wheel, reducing the risk of tangles and falls. The KLICKfix antenna is detachable, so you can remove it when not bikejoring.
This setup works with most canicross and bikejoring kits, but you need a compatible mount point on your bike—typically a seatpost or rear rack with a 22-32 mm diameter.
Installation steps
- 1. Choose the mounting location: Select a seatpost or rear rack tube that is 22–32 mm in diameter. The KLICKfix antenna bracket fits these sizes. Slide the bracket over the tube without removing any bike components. Check your tube diameter before starting; a too-thick or too-thin tube won't secure the bracket.
- 2. Attach the bracket: Position the bracket at your desired height—high enough to keep the leash clear of the wheel but low enough to avoid hitting your leg when pedaling. Tighten the screws evenly using a 4 mm hex key until the bracket is snug but not overtightened. Overtightening can crack the bracket or damage the tube. Stop when the bracket no longer rotates by hand.
- 3. Insert the antenna rod: Slide the antenna rod into the bracket's clamp until it bottoms out. Align the rod so it points straight back, parallel to the bike's frame. Tighten the clamp screw with the same hex key. If the rod is angled, the leash may still catch the wheel. Double-check alignment before riding.
- 4. Route the bungee leash: Clip your dog's bungee leash to the ring at the tip of the antenna. Let the leash run from the antenna tip to your dog's harness, keeping it above the rear wheel and away from the spokes. Make sure the leash is not twisted around the antenna rod—this can create friction and reduce bungee shock absorption.
- 5. Test the setup: Walk your bike a few meters while your dog is attached. Check that the leash stays clear of the front wheel, pedals, and brakes. Then do a slow test ride in a safe area. If you hear rubbing or see the leash touch any moving part, stop and adjust the antenna height or angle.
